Govt may let Anna fast at JP Park for 7 days

New Delhi: The negotiations between the Government and Team Anna are still on over the proposed fast against corruption by Anna Hazare.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that the government is considering offering Anna Hazare the JP Park as a venue for his fast against corruption for seven days.
According to sources, the government has offered Ramlila Maidan as an alternative venue for protest fast by Anna Hazare and his team. The restrictions on the crowd and vehicles are likely to be removed since Ramlila Maidan is a much larger ground.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that the Delhi police is likely to withdraw section 144 from JP Park.
DCP Crime Ashok Chand is believed to be negotiating with Team Anna inside the Tihar Jail and has given them two options for the venue - JP Park or Ramlila Grounds.
Top aides of Anna Hazare - Kiran Bedi, Medha Patkar, Swami Agnivesh, Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia and Akhil Gogoi - are with him inside Tihar Jail.
Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar is also a part of the negotiation process underway inside the Tihar Jail. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev was denied permission to enter the jail premises to meet Anna Hazare.
Earlier, sources has told CNN-IBN that the government is engaging in back channel talks with Team Anna. The Congress core group met on Wednesday morning over the Anna issue. The Prime Minister, AK Antony, P Chidambaram, Pranab Mukherjee and Ahmed Patel attended the meeting.
"We will find a way out of this impasse," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is believed to have said. The PM also made a statement in Parliament today on the crackdown on Team Anna on Tuesday.

France hands over list of 700 bank accounts in Switzerland, Govt probes

After the list of bank accounts of Indians in Liechtenstein, it is the turn of HSBC accounts in Geneva. The government last month received a list of some 700 bank accounts in Switzerland from the French government and investigations are already underway to determine whether any of the account holders evaded taxes.
Officials in the Finance Ministry told The Sunday Express that details of the majority of the HSBC accounts had already been received through diplomatic channels while other account details were awaited.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is said to be aware of the developments and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has been asked to scrutinise each account to probe possible tax evasion.
The Finance Ministry is learnt to have consulted Attorney General Goolam Vahanvati on the implications of the transfer of sensitive bank data and he is said to have pointed to provisions in Indian tax laws by which tax violations and criminality, wherever applicable, could be made out by using data received through such channels.

Sources said just as in the case of the LGT Bank in Liechtenstein, details of HSBC’s Indian account holders have emerged because a former employee stole data in 2008 and later handed these over to French authorities. Several countries including UK, Spain, Italy and France itself have used this data for tax evasion investigations.
Officials said that the information received by India is in the form of the account holder, passport number and address as it appears in the passport. The CBDT is understood to have constituted special teams comprising members of investigation units in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata to conduct “surveys” based on the HSBC bank details.

UPA government, led by the Congress party is in the middle of a great crisis. Not that it matters. They have all the right cards. It is sad that the Congress party has taken such a lackadaisical attitude towards the so called “Black Money,” hidden in the offshore banks. The instance of French government handing over the data is a new one in a very long list. Previously, the Swiss government offered to give more data naming names. That offer was not accepted. Indians are tired and sick about these shenanigans. If investigations are needed, arrest all these people first. File a FIR, first. They cannot hide behind the legality.
